Pro Testamentum. On methodology of acting and directing mastership

Abstract

The modern methodology of acting and directing art is the Stanislavsky system. Directing according to this system is straightly linked with a vast knowledge of the methodology of the actor's work in the performance. Modern directing often neglects the acting methodology and, therefore, is not capable of creating a true “Life of Human Spirit” on stage. This is the main goal of Stanislavsky an d Nemirovich-Danchenko teaching process. This is the base on which modern theatrical pedagogy of directing and acting skill in Russia is built. Any performance can become a ghostly scheme of life if not taking into the account special work with an actor according to Stanislavsky's methodology. And thus the actor’s art is bled to death. Then the actor becomes just a function, a sign; there is no living person on the stage, no inner spiritual life. It is not worth talking about the true transmission of human relations, which is the main artistic and ideological goal of the stage performance creators.
