Eroticism in the Plays of Victor Rozov (To the Problem of Choosing the Characters)

Abstract

The article examines the problem of eroticism in Victor Rozov’s plays. There is analyzed the role of sensuality in the self-determination of the main characters. The love experience is comprehended along with the matrimonial choice of the characters. The article is aimed in rereading the well-known material — the plays of the Soviet playwright Victor Rozov without any usual commentary. The article outlines a new thematization of the behavioral models of characters in Rozov’s plays which are correlated with erotic and sexual experiences. The relevance of the topic is determined by the need for a detailed study of the artistic features of the Soviet drama, that was dealing with the conflicts largely determined the specifics of the era. The eroticism there was at the outskirts of cultural reflection. The analysis of Victor Rozov’s plays allows us to study the sensuality, which determines the characters’ search for their own identity and forms of social adaptation. Such an approach allows us to expand the interpretative framework of the conflicts in the plays, the characters’ personalities, and to look at the characters within their complex relationship with the society. Reinterpretation of the artistic experience of classical culture implies its reading in the aspect of studying the issue of human involvement in the process of psychological and bodily metamorphoses. As this process determines the formation of personality and self-knowledge.
