An Experience of Theatre Anniversaries

Abstract

Notable anniversary dates can be perceived as a tribute to the tradition, or as a vivid return to a meaningful search for an absolute result.

For the liberal arts and social sciences, anniversaries become an important trigger for the accumulation of research efforts within the framework of scientific forums, special issues and sections of scientific journals. Understanding the main events of the Russian theatre, reflected in a series of publications on the pages of the Theatre. Fine Arts. Cinema. Music journal seeks to discover fundamental cross-cutting themes in theatre and interdisciplinary studies of what is undeservedly forgotten and re-evaluated in the current sociocultural situation.

Anniversary sections and expanded versions of articles from thematic conferences dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the Russian theatre, the 200th anniversary of A. N. Ostrovsky, the 125th anniversary of the Moscow Art Theatre, and future anniversaries of Meyerhold and the 200th anniversary of the Maly Theatre allow not only to reveal unknown phenomena and hidden patterns, but also to discover clear trends of continuity in the understanding of the original cultural code inside the contemporary art.

A systematic approach to the study of anniversary trends in the history of national culture was possible thanks to the assistance of the journal of the Russian Culture Foundation (grants to support specialized periodical journals in the field of culture and art) and the organization of research sessions by leading scientific and educational art centers within the framework of the strategic academic partnership program “Priority 2030”.
